30th Saturday Night Rock & Roll Party
30th Anniversary Rock n Roll Party
Saturday 18 May 2019
Colon Hall - Hotel Las Palmeras - Fuengirola
The Saturday Party night did take a lot of planning as so did the whole 30th Anniversary Bash, but with very accommodating Hotel management staff supporting all our various requests, and after numerous meetings “Golden Cascade and myself got the meal and venue agreed. Looking back on the evening I think we all had a fantastic party!
The venue hall was at maximum capacity for a full sit-down meal, we had all decided (The committee) that we wanted a waiter service and a 3-course meal. We have all attended many Hash events worldwide where a Buffet meal was offered. Long queues and poor quality buffet food was something we wanted to avoid, We all know the horrifying scenario on discovering that you queue for ages to find all the food platters nearly empty or cold! This was not going to happen at our party!
Next was a good band! Ricky Lavazza is well know entertainer on the coast and was performing at a Hotel in Benalmadena at a “Rocker Billy” weekend event, perfect, ALL the committee converged on the venue and had a fantastic night out, all we had to do now was see if he was available, luckily for us he was, the “Memphis Trio” were his backing band and after chatting over a few beers they were booked also!
Everything was coming together, next on the list was a DJ, while discussing the production of our magazine with “Snail Trail at “Jigsaw Design” her partner and fellow hasher “R2D2” overheard our discussion for a DJ - “I`ll do that for you” He had a full sound equipment with speakers and lighting, this turned out very fortunate for us as Ricky and the Memphis Trio were expecting the Hotel to supply the equipment! A lucky break for us!
The presenters for the evening were going to be are very own “Colonic Irritation” and the queen of radio “Miss Radio Ka Ka” Hanna Murray, we were not sure what was going to happen during the evening but they would handle everything.
At the time I was attending Ukulele meets at a local bar, about 20 of these nutters met up once a week and twanged away on the ukuleles, it was tremendous fun and great people, they were performing for the fist time at the local “Fuengirola Feria” again a few committee members turned up to see them playing, a bunch of amateurs but very entertaining, I had the brainwave why don’t they perform at our bash when Ricky & the Memphis Trio are having a break? Why not, we whittled it down to 9 ukulele players one of which had just come second in the Spanish version of “Have I got Talent” with his rendition of the “Chicken song” it was all getting very surreal, but should be good fun for a bunch of partying hashers.
Come Saturday the big night arrived for the MijasH3 - 30th Anniversary “ Rock & Roll” party, after a hard days hashing in the Andalusian countryside most had scrubbed up well and were ready to party. It was great to see so many had made the effort to keep with the party theme and add to the atmosphere with “Rock & Roll” attire, while the rest turned in some fantastic hash apparel.
There were prizes for the best dressed Hashers and couples which were given later in the evening, “Ever-ready” & “Flossie” from the Yorkshire hash I thought would be on for a prize but that was not to be, I think it was because “Ever-ready” looked more like “Al Jolson”. The Guernsey girls were the stars of the night making the singer “Ricky” very nervous with their long prongs!!!! and their dance routines, no hash party would be the same without this wild bunch, well-done girls!
Half way through the evening during Ricky and the Memphis Trio tea break it was time for a change of tempo, and welcome the local Ukulele band, “Fuengulele 95” they started with one of their members “Johna’s” rendition of the “Chicken song” which got him to second place in the Spanish version of “Have I got talent” all true! After this we were treated to some tremendous ukulele playing and joined in with a good old sing along,
I think their version of “Wild Rover” had everybody in full voice, after their much deserved Oncor, Ricky was back with the lads, twisting the night away. Going around the tables it was amazing to all these well-travelled hashers, my old friends from Singapore Lion City hash, Thailand, down under Aussies from Perth, all the London Kennels Surrey, Wessex and London’s many hash kennels our European hashes, from Frankfurt, the Hague, Scandies from Oslo and Copenhagen and a HUGE turn out from our fiends across the pond in the USA, Just an AMAZING group.
Coming to the end of the evening “Clonic Irritation” & “Radio Ka Ka” handed out the awards for the best dressed; Male, Female and Couple in “Rock & Roll” attire, the Male award went to “Neptunes” in his amazing Elvis costume, for the ladies it was our own “Blown a Seal” in her 50`s ensemble, and finally the best couple went to “Comes more often” & “ Little Big Horn” for the 50`s interpretation, well done, for their efforts they were all awarder a “Beer” in next day’s circle, (If they brought with them their blue ticket). The night ended (Not that I can remember much) but I have been informed that we brought the MijasH3 committee on stage and the “Fuegulele 95” band sang us to an end with the Monty Python classic “Always look on the bright side of life” What a great night.
Thank you all.
God Bless Ya, Sir Flakey.
